The International Conference on Phosphates in Marrakech
Research in the area of phosphates and phosphorous compounds is a primordial concern of many researchers from academic and industrial environments. Gathering these researchers to foster exchange between them and promote quality research in the area of phosphates was the first motivation for the organization of “The First Conference on Valorisation of Phosphates and Phosphorous Compounds”.
COVAPHOS I took place in Marrakech in October 2004, and had a tremendous success. This year, the second conference was again in Marrakech, with a tree-day program, from 9 to 11 November.
Organized by the network of national and international researchers in phosphate
(Recherphos) and the center of studies and research on mineral phosphates (Cerphos), in collaboration with the OCP, the world institute of phosphate (IMPHOS), the national center for scientific and technical research (CNRST) and the association of research and development in Morocco; the primary aim of this conference was to create an interactive forum for researchers, industrials and technology suppliers in the field of phosphate, and promote research in this area, through the following objectives among others:
encourage a profitable information exchange ;
promote fundamental and applied quality-research and development in the area ;
enrich knowledge accumulated in the area of phosphates and phosphorous compounds;
explore new applications for phosphates and phosphorous compounds…
The conference topics were as following: Geology of phosphates, beneficiation of phosphates, phosphoric acid and fertilizers, fertilization, phosphate materials and biomaterials, environment, safety and control.
And like in the first COVAPHOS, this conference included research prizes as well, for senior and junior researchers, in order to encourage and compensate their efforts in the area of phosphate. This initiative was led in collaboration with the association of research and development in Morocco.
